IHI Extranet Retirement


On May 31st, 2022, The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) discontinued use of the Extranet data and information management system. Please reference the information below for more detail about this change.

What was the IHI Extranet?

The IHI Extranet was a custom web-based application to support improvement teams that work with IHI in managing their improvement projects, including tracking data, creating run charts, sharing documents, and managing teams, among other functions. The IHI Extranet supported numerous IHI projects and improvers around the world for more than 20 years.

Why was the IHI Extranet retired?

The IHI Extranet was retired on May 31, 2022. The Extranet will no longer be supported after May 2022 since IHI is transitioning to new technology platforms that offer greatly enhanced and more integrated functionality.

To better support our customers and our work, IHI is updating our information technology to enable IHI to virtually reach millions of stakeholders worldwide. The new technology platforms include an enhanced IHI Education Platform  and the IHI Community Platform , among other technological improvements.

What has replaced the IHI Extranet?

For project or community collaboration, we have launched the IHI Community Platform . With respect to QI project management, a number of alternative commercial products are available that offer functions that are similar to the Extranet's. 

Can I export my improvement project data from the IHI Extranet?

With the launch of these new technology platforms IHI will no longer support the Extranet as of May 31, 2022. After that date the Extranet will no longer be accessible to teams or IHI staff and the data will no longer be accessible.
