Scholarship Application
Thank you for your interest in attending IHI programs. If you would like to be considered for scholarship funding, please submit a scholarship application by following the steps below.
Scholarships vary by program. Check the Fees & Enrollment page of each program description under IHI Offerings to learn what scholarships are available for that program. Scholarships are awarded on an individual basis. Each individual interested in obtaining a scholarship must complete an application in their name.
- Review the description of each scholarship below and select the one you would like to apply for.
- Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation when your application has been received.
- Your application will be reviewed and you will be notified about scholarship funding.
- If you receive scholarship funding, you will be asked to accept or decline that funding within a limited period of time to allow others to receive funding that is not accepted. IHI requests your response either way.
- IHI will notify you with a link to register online using the scholarship funds extended. You will receive a confirmation by email of your registration. If applicable, you will also be given instructions to edit your enrollment so that you may choose session.
Note: For smaller programs, if there is a risk that the program will sell out, you should register for the program early in the process to guarantee a spot.

Scholarship for IHI Programs
IHI is pleased to offer a limited amount of scholarship funding to offset the program registration fees in cases of financial hardship.
Please note that scholarships are available to assist with program registration fees only and are not applicable for travel, food, or accommodation costs associated with attending the program.

2026 IHI Forum Scholarships
Academic and Need-Based Scholarship
We’re proud to offer a limited number of scholarships to help reduce the cost of attending the IHI Forum for those who may not otherwise be able to participate due to financial constraints. Scholarships cover 25% of the general conference registration fee ($1,595). They do not cover travel, lodging, or meals.
All submissions are reviewed individually using consistent scoring criteria to ensure fair and equitable distribution. Please note: Scholarships are non-transferable and must be submitted by the deadline to be considered.
Scholarships are available to individuals who meet one of the following criteria:
- Work at an independent U.S. Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) not affiliated with a hospital or health system
- Employed by a Critical Access Hospital
- Work in an independent practice with fewer than 20 physicians
- Employed by a hospital with fewer than 50 beds
- Member of America’s Essential Hospitals
- Work at a 501(c)(3) organization with an operating budget under $5 million serving community-based populations
- Employed by a Ministry of Health or a faith-based health institution
- Currently enrolled as a resident at a hospital or clinic
- Currently enrolled as a full- or part-time student at an academic institution.

IHI Forum: The Justin A. Micalizzi Memorial IHI Scholarship - Justin A. Micalizzi (1989-2001)
Justin’s HOPE Project and IHI are extremely proud to announce the Justin Micalizzi Memorial IHI Scholarship in loving memory of Justin A. Micalizzi who died at the age of 11 due to a medical error. Learning from this devastating loss ― and making a difference that will improve pediatric health care ― has become a quest for Justin’s family.
Justin's HOPE project will award scholarships to health caregivers who are committed to pediatric patient safety and providing a safe health care environment for their patients and families. The Justin Micalizzi Memorial IHI Scholarship covers registration fees for all four days of the IHI Forum, up to four nights complimentary hotel accommodation at one of the IHI Forum hotels, and reimbursement for travel expenditures up to $500.
Eligibility: The scholarship will be awarded to one clinician who is working with vulnerable, underprivileged, and underserved pediatric populations and their families with a focus on patient safety, quality improvement, inequities, and compassionate care.
Requirements: To apply, please complete a 500-word essay explaining your dedication to and passion for serving vulnerable pediatric populations, and your desire to improve children’s health care.
Dale Ann Micalizzi, Founder and Director of Justin’s HOPE Project at The Task Force for Global Health, will assist IHI staff in reviewing applications and designating the beneficiary. Corporate, individual, or honorarium contributions to Justin's HOPE Project are greatly appreciated in order for us to continue this worthwhile cause.

Justin Micalizzi Memorial IHI Scholarship
IHI Forum: The Annette J. Bartley Memorial Scholarship
Annette J. Bartley RN, BA, MS, MPH, was a nurse and health care improvement coach for more than 30 years, which included several leadership roles in frontline clinical care and management. A beloved member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) community, Annette died in November 2016, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and optimism.
In 2006, Annette was awarded a Health Foundation Quality Improvement Fellowship and spent a year as a Fellow at IHI. During that year, she also earned a Master’s degree in Public Health at Harvard University. As IHI Faculty and as an Independent Quality Improvement Consultant, Annette was responsible for developing, supporting, and leading several successful quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across the UK at regional and national levels. Her work extended internationally from Canada to Singapore, showcasing Annette’s unique ability to connect with teams from all cultures and contexts and help motivate them to achieve excellence. Many colleagues viewed Annette as an authority on the prevention of avoidable pressure ulcers (using quality improvement methodology), the implementation of the SKIN Bundle, and intentional rounding.
Annette’s unwavering passion for improvement was inspiring to countless frontline care teams that used her guidance to improve their ability to reliably deliver high-quality, safe, person-centered care.
IHI will award the Annette J. Bartley Memorial Scholarship annually to one nursing professional who demonstrates a strong interest in health care improvement. The scholarship will cover the cost of General Conference fees for the IHI Forum. In addition, the scholarship will provide the winner with up to $1,000 for travel and four nights’ lodging.
